David lived as a Theravadin Buddhist Monk for 18 years, exploring and teaching approaches to mindfulness, awareness and meditation. He lived in monastic communities in the U.K., West Australia and N.Z. David spent 3 years in Buddhist countries in Asia, studying the Insight method at retreat centres. This included several months of living alone in a cave in Malaysia. David then settled for 3 years in the monastery in Stokes Valley, Wellington, where he co-led the community. He left the monastic order 8 years ago and now practices Shiatsu healing bodywork at “The Villa” in Nelson. David is director of "The Zen Shiatsu College of Nelson. He also teaches meditation, yoga and stress reduction, both for the Cancer Society and privately. Additionally, he runs workshops on mindfulness meditation with wave dance, and "Interactive Mindful Enquiry". He holds a sitting group once a week. His primary focus is on the “Insight/ Vipassana” method, often with an emphasis on good will meditation and gentle breathing yoga as foundation.
